Plantar fasciitis is a common issue that causes significant pain in the heel area during weight bearing. The pain is often horrible on the first few steps out of bed oratorsitting for extended periods. This condition can be treated with hands-on treatment to loosen the muscles and joints around the calf, ankle and foot. Common treatment utilized at Spine & Performance involves Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) directed at loosening the plantar fascia (thick tissue supporting the arch of the foot) followed by kinesiotaping using RockTape for support. Research simply doesn't support the use of the expensive shoe inserts commonly used elsewhere. |
Who hasn't woken with a "crick" in the neck?! Who doesn't have muscle tension from sitting behind a computer or looking down at a phone or while doing housework? These are common problems and easily addressed with various soft tissue and joint manipulations and posture correction used here at Spine & Performance. Work1-on-1 with your doctor of physical therapy to get relief!

Shoulder pain can have many causes and, thus, a proper mechanical evaluation as done at Spine & Performance is critical to receiving the appropriate treatment. Shoulderpain is very often accompanied by neck pain or stiffness and this is always addressed as well. Rotator cuff tears are common and the research is very clear that conservative management (physical therapy) is preferred to surgical management.

According to research, some migraine headaches, tension headaches, and cervicogenic (originating from the neck) headaches all commonly involve stiff joints and tight muscles in the upper neck and upper back. These headaches often respond very well to loosening of these stiff joints and muscles via hands-on treatment and movements that decompress the joints. A thorough evaluation will be performed at Spine & Performance to determine if your headache type will respond to therapy.

Another very common condition, sciatica (sigh-at-i-ca) is leg pain that radiates from the back or buttock area. Sciatica is referred pain (pain felt in one area of the body that arises from another area). This condition can usually be managed conservatively with hands-on treatment, posture correction and movement-based therapy. Thorough evaluation is performed on each patient to determine exactly what treatment is needed and goals are to reduce pain and restore function.

Back pain is a common condition affecting nearly 1 in 2 Americans. Generic, 1-size-fits-all treatment is not utilized at Spine & Performance. We treat back pain as an individual problem by providing a thorough, 1-on-1, mechanical evaluation. We then provide customized treatment that often involves hands-on manipulation to ease muscle tension and stiff spinal joints, active patient movements to correct posture and prevent re-injury, and reliance on lengthy therapy courses. Many people who seek care early can see significant results in just 2-4 visits. Most back pain episodes can be treated without imaging when evaluated by the right therapist trained to do so.

The McKenzie Method
|
|
The McKenzie Method, i.e. Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy, is not just a collection of techniques, but rather an entire system of evaluation and treatment that allows the certified clinician to:
- rapidly and accurately diagnose each condition
- treat each individual based on a thorough mechanical evaluation, not just an X-ray or MRI
- quickly determine if physical therapy is appropriate and establish a quick prognosis
- teach the patient how to prevent re-injury
- get results in as little as 2-3 visits
- Only 1 movement (exercise) usually given each visit
